This chapter is designed to give the reader their first impressions of Hogwarts. The film production did a terrific job with the sets – I saw them live when I took the […]
Movie vs. Book – Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s (Philosopher’s) Stone Chapter 7: The Sorting Hat
Movie vs. Book – Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s (Philosopher’s) Stone Chapter 6: The Journey From Platform Nine and Three-Quarters
The biggest difference here is that contrary to the film, Harry stays with the Dursleys for an additional month before it’s time to go to Hogwarts. They are equally afraid and angry […]
2021 in Review: My Year in Geocaching
2021 was the best year I’ve had since I started geocaching. I finished the year with 1,728 total finds, blowing away my old personal record of 1,090 finds in 2015. I also […]
Movie vs. Book – Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s (Philosopher’s) Stone Chapter 5: Diagon Alley
This chapter adds more depth to the Wizarding World. It introduces the reader to the concept of money in the Wizarding World. It also introduces the Ministry of Magic as the governing […]
Movie vs. Book – Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s (Philosopher’s) Stone Chapter 4: The Keeper of the Keys
This chapter is pretty faithfully represented in the film, although, as usual, there’s more depth to the events that occur. When Hagrid makes his entrance to the shack on the island where […]
My December 2021 Round-Up
As much as this was a rough year, it also felt like it went by really fast. Perhaps that is because I threw myself into geocaching as a means of escape, and […]
Movie vs. Book – Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s (Philosopher’s) Stone Chapter 3: Letters From No One
This chapter is the first that makes it clear Harry is someone special. It’s a humorous way of depicting the Wizarding World reclaiming one of its own, despite the Dursley’s best attempts […]
Movie vs. Book – Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s (Philosopher’s) Stone Chapter 2: The Vanishing Glass
This chapter is an overview of what Harry’s life has been like living with the Dursleys. I think this is covered fairly well in the film adaptation. The main thing missing here […]
Movie vs. Book – Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s (Philosopher’s) Stone Chapter 1: The Boy Who Lived
Where I chapter by chapter review the book versus the movie. Some differences are minor, while sometimes entire stories were jettisoned from the films, which is why I encourage people to read […]
2021 in Review: My Year in Books
Below are the books I read this year. If I’ve posted a review, the images will be clickable to that review. After watching Bridgerton on Netflix, I had a desire to read […]
