Book Review: The Complete Book of Baseball Trivia by Matt Chandler – Unforgettable Moments and Legendary Players

The Complete Book of Baseball Trivia by Matt Chandler is a collection of 750 questions covering baseball’s history, legendary players, famous teams, memorable games, and important moments. The book is designed to challenge readers’ knowledge while helping them discover interesting facts about the sport. Its trivia format makes learning about baseball entertaining and gives readers an opportunity to test themselves or compete with family and friends.

The book explores baseball beyond statistics and records, highlighting the players and events that have helped shape the game. For longtime fans, it offers a chance to revisit familiar stories and memories. For newer fans, it provides an introduction to baseball’s rich history and traditions.

As I made my way through the questions, I actually surprised myself with how many of the questions I knew the answers to. Flipping back and forth was a bit awkward on my Kindle, but it worked out just fine. Sometimes the answers seemed so obvious I didn’t bother to check them, but for the most part, the trivia questions are good ones that will especially appeal to those who have been watching baseball for 50 years, as I have. For new fans of the game, there’s plenty in the book to learn more about baseball history.

The book is structured quite well. The questions are divided into various topics, although no question appears twice. Although a question might fall into various chapters, it only appears once. If you’re looking for specific trivia, you might not find it easily. However, I found that the great variety of questions kept me interested.

As a New York Mets fan, I find baseball especially meaningful because of the players, games, and memories associated with the team. One of my favorite baseball memories is seeing Tom Seaver pitch a one-hitter in 1977. Seaver remains a legendary figure in Mets history, and remembering that performance reminds me how special a great pitching game can be. I also remember the excitement surrounding the Mets’ 1986 World Series championship, which remains one of the most memorable achievements in the team’s history.

I like the idea of testing my baseball knowledge while discovering facts I might not already know. Trivia can also encourage conversations with family and friends, especially when discussing favorite players, historic games, and memorable teams. Although the question-and-answer format may not provide the depth of a traditional baseball history book, it makes learning accessible and enjoyable.

I would recommend The Complete Book of Baseball Trivia to baseball fans who enjoy testing their knowledge and learning about the game’s history. For me, its appeal is the opportunity to connect new information with memories of players and teams I have followed throughout the years. Ultimately, the book celebrates what makes baseball special: its history, its memorable personalities, and the lasting connection between the game and its fans.
