For a while, I did these posts at the end of every month. I’ve gotten away from that a bit, but I want to start again. I’m stuck at home more now as I become resigned to things, and I think this is a good way to reflect positively on each month.
Why am I home more? Well, my health isn’t all that great. I fight it and try to be positive, but I am really worried. I had a couple of trips to the doctor where my blood pressure was up, despite already being on medication. I’m talking 150 over 90-ish. My blood pressure meds were upped as well as adding statins. I had a number of episodes of the worst heartburn I’d ever experienced and thought I had an ulcer. My doctor also added reflux meds, and I can say I’ve only had two episodes of it since then. I can usually tell if it’s going to affect me and try not to lie down until it abates a bit. I don’t know if it’s an ulcer, as she’s trying to prevent me from having to get a scope. I’m watching what I eat as well. I hate being on all of these meds, and I know the excessive sweating is a side effect of them, so I’m stuck unless there’s something different we haven’t tried yet. I have an appointment with my PCP this month.
I already tended to sweat a lot on the blood pressure meds. Upping them made it even worse. I was in Detroit and Toronto this month, and although it was warm, it wasn’t terrible just yet. Still, I could barely function because of how much I would sweat. It was in the low 80’s one day, and I just went walking with a friend and sweated so much I had to go back to my Airbnb and take a shower and change before I could go to the game. Even then, by the time I arrived at Rogers Center in the evening, I was sweating again. Unless we can figure out something to stop it, I’m going to be stuck in air conditioning whenever it’s just warm out. I end up drenched in sweat with just a little exertion.

One of my life goals is to visit all 30 baseball stadiums. Online, it’s called the “Ballpark Chase” and there are groups on Facebook devoted to it. At the beginning of the month, I was looking, and the Mets were due to be in Toronto at the end of the month. If I were going to drive to Toronto, well, Detroit wasn’t all that far, either. The Tigers were home for a series right before the Mets went to Toronto, so that would knock off two stadiums I needed to visit. I have visited 11 stadiums so far. This is something that will take years to complete, and that’s if there’s not a lockout next season.
I did enjoy the little bit I saw of the cities and managed to do a little geocaching there too. I’d definitely go back to Toronto again. The city is so easy to get around in, and I met one of my friends who took me to the Islands in Lake Ontario, where it felt like you weren’t even near a city anymore. I took in two games in each City before trekking home.
I had my best month ever geocaching in June, thanks to some Adventure Lab geo-art that’s out there. There’s one in the Finger Lakes of New York that has something like 100 Adventure Labs, which translates to 500 “finds”. Now that we’re in summer, it won’t be quite as fast as I’ve been doing since it’s hot out. This past week it was way too hot to go out geocaching in New Hampshire, but I might be able to get out again before it gets too hot. Hopefully, July won’t be too bad in the mountains, but it’s been getting hotter and hotter even just since we moved up here.
I decided to try to structure what I contribute to the blog more. It wasn’t an issue when I had plenty of older reviews to pull from, but I’m starting to get near the bottom of the reserve, and many of the posts are things that don’t even exist anymore. I started the Marvel Cinematic Universe in chronological order, rather than in the order the films and series were released. I’m going to call Mondays “Marvel Mondays” now and try to post a Marvel review every Monday from now on. Next up is going to be Captain Marvel (the movie), so tomorrow, when everyone is gone, I will sit and watch it and try to come up with a good review. I’m in a Facebook group that’s rewatching The West Wing, so I will review one episode every Wednesday: West Wing Wednesdays! Finally, I want to finish my Babylon 5 reviews, but I keep procrastinating, so Fridays will be Babylon Five-Day. I’m more than halfway through that series, so once I’m done, I’ll switch over to Deep Space Nine on Fridays. The remaining days will be for my book reviews, and there’s a good chance I will miss some days anyway. I do try to give priority to the books I’ve gotten as Advanced Reader copies.
