I had a good year in reading books. Considering a few years ago I couldn’t read at all due to a head injury, this is a great accomplishment. I had my goal this year set at 60 books but upped it to 65 when I saw I was going to hit 60 easily. I think I’ll leave it at 65 for next year. Nearly every night I read for a couple of hours before I go to sleep. I’ll definitely finish the book I’m currently reading before the end of the year, so the total will be 79. I also still listen to audiobooks, mostly while I work on my diamond painting now, but also at times when I don’t want music on and can exclusively pay attention to them. That happens a lot while I’m on an airplane or while in the car and my spouse is driving. The list represents a mixture of physical books, ebooks, and audiobooks.
There are a few new series I read by authors who are not well-known that I really enjoyed. The Second Chance series by Michael Roberts and the Baseball Immortal series by Roland Colton stands out in that area. Both are science fiction involving time travel and alternate history. I read a few advanced reader books that are given out for reviews. They Come at Knight by Yasmin Angoe was the best of those that I read this year, with We Spread by Iain Reid second.
Favorite book of the year: Kindred by Octavia Butler. This is definitely in my Top 10 of all time now.

Favorite non-fiction: Spare by Prince Harry
Biggest disappointment fiction: The House at the End of the World by Dean Koontz
Biggest disappointment non-fiction: Madly, Deeply: The Diaries of Alan Rickman by Alan Rickman
Biggest surprise fiction: The Martian by Andy Weir
Biggest surprise non-fiction: Born A Crime by Trevor Noah

I did better than I thought I would. I think all the time I had in the spring while we were driving from one campground to another helped a lot.

Wow! It’s good to know that my recommendations have some impact! Atkinson and James D. Hornfischer (who sadly died a few years back) are my favorite late 20th Century/early 21st Century historians.
