Geocaching

Weekly Round-Up May 13, 2022

It’s been a week! So much has happened this week. The main one is that my third grandchild was born. Bryson Walter came in at 10 lbs, 4 ozs, and is 21 inches long. His middle name, Walter, is for my father. I might have teared up a bit when I was holding him and telling him about who he was named for. Baby is home and Mom, baby, and big sister are all doing great.

GEOCACHING

I did go geocaching last weekend before baby arrived. I crossed off nine more towns in eastern Vermont. It was a nice ride on a beautiful day. I came to the conclusion that while I miss my Jeep Wrangler very much, I like the gas mileage I get with my Chevy Trax. I drove around all day and finally had to fill up on the way home.

One of the towns I visited was Springfield, VT. It’s the town that has been designated the “Springfield” that The Simpsons reside in. No, there’s no nuclear power plant there for Homer to work in, but it’s a nice town. I also visited Chester, VT which is a nice historic town with many of the homes made out of the rock like the church with the stained glass windows above. I finished the day by discovering the Vermont Country Store. When we lived in New York, I received their catalog and ordered from here. Now I was able to explore it in person and probably spent too much money.

I don’t know if I’ll get to go anywhere this weekend. It depends on how much I need to support my daughter with the new baby home.

HOW THINGS ARE GOING

Spring is finally here although right now it feels like we’re in summer. My outside thermometer says it’s 89°! This isn’t going to last. Sunday we will get some thunderstorms through and then it will be more seasonable with highs in the low to mid-70s. Since I still can’t go swimming due to the wound on my abdomen, that’s a good thing.

I saw the surgeon last week and I am still healing but it is going well. I just have opticell in the wound itself and what looks like a giant band-aid over it. I see her again in three weeks. I’m hoping soon it will be able to heal as much as possible and I will just be left with the scar. It’s not pretty, that’s for sure. I talked with a couple of attorneys, and it seems I don’t have a case even though it would seem that way.

BASEBALL

That’s my Mets on top! They’re having a great year so far. It reminds me of 1986. Let’s just hope they can keep it going. I was worried that with the new owner it would be like the Yankees or Dodgers where they buy a Championship, but this team has heart. They showed that when they came back against the Phillies from a 7-1 deficit in the 9th inning to win the game. I like the energy of young players like Jankowski, who was kept on the team when Robinson Cano was let go. Good move, in my opinion.

Books I recently read (I’ve been busy since I updated last):

  1. So much going on!! That new grandson is adorable! We are heading out on a geocaching adventure to Utah – and the forecast hot, hot, and hotter! I hope your Mets can maintain their place at the top… and I’m reading too!
