2023 Spring Camping Trip: Day One

Welcome to our Spring 2023 camping trip! I”m going to try to update every day, but don’t be surprised if there are days I miss and have to post the next day.

Our first two days are mostly about getting to where we want to go. Our main goal is to visit my daughter-in-law and granddaughter in Texas. However, Texas is about a 5 day’s drive from us towing a camper. By Monday we should be in Murfreesboro, Tennessee where my daughter and son-in-law live and we’ll spend a couple of nights there. Wednesday we will go to Memphis and spend a couple of nights there as well. Next is Hot Springs, Arkansas, and staying at the National Park and visiting the hot baths for a dip.

From Hot Spring we will get to Texas and spend 5 nights near Killeen. I’m planning on taking one day by myself to meet up with a geocaching buddy who writes the blog Geocaching While Black and do some geocaching with him.

From there, my daughter-in-law and granddaughter will accompany us to the new Margaritaville Camping Resort in Crystal Beach, TX for some relaxation. They’ll return home and we’ll go on to the Destin, Florida area where the main office for my job is, and meet with the owner and some others. From there we’re heading to Myrtle Beach for a few days. After that, it’s Colonial Williamsburg for 4 nights, and finally, Assateague National Park to camp on the beach and see the wild horses.

Whenever we take a road trip, our departure morning usually includes breakfast at Cracker Barrel in Sturbridge, Massachusetts.

It was a beautiful day for a drive! We made a lot of pit stops to walk the dog and take bathroom breaks.

Pennsylvania! Our destination for the night!

Our destination for the night. We arrived at the KOA Jonestown/Hershey while it was still light out which was nice. We really had enough of setting up in the dark last fall. Not many campers here this time of year. The staff is great and it looks like a fun place to stop in warmer weather. We are closer to the bathhouse so we don’t have to use the bathroom in the trailer, except probably when it’s 25° overnight.

Today’s geocache was at a rest stop in Pennsylvania.
